  • A Few random thoughts for the Day

     1. Indianapolis has won the bid to host the Superbowl in 2012! We are so excited, especially about the taxes that will probably increase sharply in the next few years. No really, Indy is a great town and on the news they were talking about all the improvements they'll be making in the next 4 years to make the city look better and I thought "Well, if that's what it will take to make our city even nicer, let's do it!" Indianapolis beat out Phoenix and Houston for this one and my first thought was, "Do these people know how freakin' COLD it is here the first week of February?" Whatever. It will be a blast. And it's not like our city is a stranger to large crowds and events... we host the Brickyard 400 and the Indianapolis 500 (on this Sunday) races each year. Now the next goal is to make sure that the Colts are playing in it.... hmmm....

    2. This week Nintendo released their newest addition to the Wii craze, the WiiFit. In case you haven't heard about it, it's a small balance board that you can use to perform yoga, aerobics, and lots of other fitness-type games. The one thing that makes me laugh a little, and also makes me cringe a little is the whole BMI calculator it includes. Before you play a game, you have to step onto the board and it calculates your BMI, and shows you where you stand right there on the screen. And it is to be kept in mind, that this game is designed for adults, and not kids. The WiiFit will tell you if you are underweight, overweight, or FAT. Yes, they actually use that word. Some people are not buying them because their kids will use them (and invite other kid friends over to play) and it will ruin their self-esteem because it tells them they're FAT. Apparently, Nintendo has apologized for this. But in a way, this could be a good thing for adults. Too many things these days are sugar-coated and politically incorrect. Maybe it's time for something like this. I don't know. What do you think?

    3. Mike was a sweetie and rented 27 Dresses for us to watch last night. He walked in the door from doing some errands at about 9:30pm and told me that we had to hurry up and watch it because it's only a 24 hour rental! He also rented Delta Farce (um, OK), Bee Movie, and some volleyball movie. 27 Dresses was OK, but the storyline was SO predictable. Of course the story was original, but the progression of how the story worked was completely overdone. Girl meets boy... boy annoys girl... girl and boy start flirting... girl and boy fall in love... boy does something unintentional that makes girl mad... then either girl or boy realizes the truth and they get married. Overall it was cute and Katherine Heigl was great. I love how transparent her character was, you knew exactly what she was thinking from her facial expressions. I won't buy it, but it was cute. What did you girls think?

  • 5 of my favorite people

    [group.JPG]

These 5 little whippersnappers in the above picture have quickly become some of my favorite people in the world.... not to mention their sweet parents Dave and Manna! Annabelle, Lili, Thomas (Tomi), Matthew (Mate), and Hanna (pictured in that order with their Mom) came into the world within 5 minutes of each other last October, and are doing so well! They are a set of healthy quintuplets born to a very sweet set of parents, who never cease to amaze me with their kindness, gentleness, patience, and joy amidst the chaos that must come with having 5 kids at once. A huge group of 200+ volunteers from our church, College Park, have come to their aid in the past 5 months, helping them out with diaper changes, feedings, and cuddles and I count myself fortunate to be one of them. I've been able to go over to their house about once a week, and it's been such an incredible joy. For a few months I worked the overnight shift, waking up in the middle of the night to change diapers, prepare bottles, feed them, and put them back down to bed.... that was exhausting but fun. And now my shift has been eliminated because these troopers are sleeping thru the entire night without any feedings! Way to go, kids! Their different personalities crack me up, and they become more vocal and active each time I see them. The other night when I was over there, one of the other volunteers was bouncing Lili on her knee, singing some sort of rhyme and Lili was getting a huge kick out of it, laughing like a champ. Then we heard the telltale "gulp" sound, and there came the milk, all over herself. We just about died laughing.... and she thought it was pretty funny too. One night when I volunteered there were 5 of us volunteers, one baby each! I had fed and burped Thomas about 30 minutes beforehand and thought he was done spitting up. We all posed for a picture and I don't know if he got stage fright or something... but as I smiled for the picture, I heard the sound from his belly, and soon felt warm liquid all over my lap... oh well. They are all so sweet and I really look forward to watching them grow up throughout the years.

For more information on this sweet family, you can visit www.daveandmanna.blogspot.com.

I love me some babies! MJZ, I know what you mean about getting your baby fix! Whenever I want to snuggle a baby, I can hold one of them, and then go right on home, back to my honey. We won't be ready for kids for another couple of years, at least until we get the house.

    More later!
